"A lot of people come to Queenstown with an expectation that the town is going to be covered in snow during winter. All the famous photos feature thick white blankets and the promise of Christmas in July. The reality though is that ground-level snow is rare here, and when it happens, it's chaotic and fleeting as a photographer to try and capture some essence before it melts away. It happens a couple of days a year, if we're lucky. So - higher ground is our friend, where snow settles more often and the temperatures are lower. I took this photo from near the top of the gondola in 2021, looking down towards Walter Peak and Cecil Peak. I call it a dishonest representation of New Zealand's climate, but hopefully you'll call it a momento of your quintessential winter in Queenstown."
