"I got into a habit for a while of booking flights only at certain times (usually at either end of the day, when the light is softer) and buying a window seat to ensure unimpeded views out the cabin window. This was because I usually travel with my camera, and some of the most unreal scenery I've seen has been in a jet, above the clouds. With that backstory out of the way, it was a clear morning in Queenstown and I was leaving to visit family. I was a little disappointed with how bright it was out, but when Whakaata (Lake Hayes) started coming into view, that feeling quickly melted away."
